Media Assets and Specs
Technical specifications for poster, gallery images, trailer, and other media on your BlockReel Fund campaign page.
Media Assets and Specs
Specifications and best practices for every visual asset on your campaign page.
A great pitch can be undermined by media that loads slowly, looks bad on mobile, or fails to share well on social. This guide covers exact specs and the reasoning behind them.

The poster image
This is the single most important visual on your campaign page. It appears:
- At the top of the campaign page as the hero image
- As the Open Graph card image when shared on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Discord
- As the thumbnail on /fund discovery
- In email notifications to backers
- In any embed of your campaign on third-party sites
Specs:
- Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape) preferred. 1:1 (square) acceptable for some designs but loses the social card real estate.
- Resolution: 1920x1080 minimum, 2560x1440 ideal. Higher is fine; we downscale and serve through CDN.
- Format: JPEG (preferred for photographic content), PNG (preferred for graphic design with text or transparency), WebP (acceptable but JPEG is more compatible).
- File size: Under 5MB. Aim for 500KB-1.5MB after optimization.
- Color profile: sRGB. Other profiles (Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB) often look wrong on web.
Design principles:
- Title legible at thumbnail size. Test by zooming out to 200x130 pixels in your design tool. If you cannot read the title, the design fails.
- One strong focal point. Posters with three competing focal points fail in social cards.
- Avoid text-only posters. A poster that is all type with no image converts worse than a poster with an evocative image and minimal type.
- Match the tone of the film. A horror film poster should feel like horror. A comedy poster should feel like comedy. Confusion at first glance loses the click.
Pay for a designer if you can. A $300-1,000 poster from a real graphic designer outperforms a self-made poster by significant margins.
Gallery images
Up to 10 supporting images appear in a scrollable gallery below the video. Use them to show:
- Production stills (if you have shot anything)
- Concept art and storyboards
- Location scouts
- Team behind the scenes
- Test footage frame grabs
- Inspirational reference images (with credit and permission if not your work)
Specs:
- Aspect ratio: Any consistent ratio. Mixing landscape and portrait looks messy.
- Resolution: 1920x1080 minimum (or 1080x1920 for portrait).
- Captions: Optional but recommended. A caption like "Location scout in Mexico City, January 2026" adds depth.
- Order: Most compelling image first. The gallery is a story; sequence it.
10 images is plenty. 6-8 is often better. Quantity above quality is never the answer.
The pitch video
Covered in depth in Building Your Pitch Video. Media specs only here:
- Length: 60-90 seconds optimal
- Resolution: 1080p (1920x1080) minimum, 4K acceptable
- Aspect ratio: 16:9 horizontal
- Hosting: YouTube or Vimeo (we embed via URL, do not host video files directly)
- Captions: Burn in or upload SRT file separately
- Audio: Mixed to -16 LUFS for spoken word, music sub-mixed to -24 LUFS
Trailer (optional)
Distinct from the pitch video. The trailer is a 30-90 second cut of actual footage from the film (or a proof of concept). It lives in a separate slot on the campaign page below the pitch video.
A trailer is optional but adds significant trust. If you have shot anything that can be cut into a trailer, do it. If you have not, skip the slot rather than fake one.
Specs match the pitch video.
Reward tier images
Each reward tier can include an optional image. Recommended for:
- Physical reward tiers (show the actual T-shirt, poster, prop)
- Tiers with a unique experience (show the location of the on-set visit)
- Tiers tied to specific deliverables (show the digital art book mockup)
Specs:
- Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square) preferred. Renders consistently in the tier card.
- Resolution: 800x800 minimum.
- Format: JPEG or PNG.
Team headshots
Each team member's profile picture is pulled from their BlockReel avatar. If the avatar is generic or low-quality, encourage them to upload a better one in their profile settings.
For external collaborators, you can upload a headshot directly in the team section of the builder. Specs:
- Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
- Resolution: 400x400 minimum
- Format: JPEG or PNG
- Content: A professional or semi-professional headshot. Not a snapshot. Eye contact with the camera if possible.
Press kit
A press kit URL is an optional field. It should link to an external resource (Google Drive folder, Dropbox, dedicated press page) containing:
- High-resolution poster (PDF or PNG, 300dpi)
- 5-10 high-resolution production stills (JPEG, 300dpi)
- Director and key cast bios in plain text
- Logline and synopsis in plain text
- Production company logo files
- Contact information for press inquiries
A press kit dramatically increases the likelihood of coverage. Journalists who have to ask for assets often skip the story.
Update feed media
Updates posted to the updates feed support inline images and embedded video. Use them to:
- Show progress (new production stills, behind-the-scenes shots)
- Announce stretch goals or new rewards (with a visual)
- Introduce a new team member or cast member (with their headshot)
Specs: Same as gallery images for stills. Same as pitch video for inline video.
Open Graph and shareable previews
When your campaign URL is shared on social platforms, the platform fetches an Open Graph (OG) preview card. We auto-generate the OG card from:
- The campaign title and tagline
- The poster image
- The funding progress percentage
You do not need to upload a separate OG image. If you want a custom OG image, upload one in the advanced settings (specs: 1200x630 PNG or JPEG, under 1MB).
Test before launch: Paste your campaign URL into Twitter, Facebook, and Discord and confirm the preview looks correct. Use opengraph.xyz for a quick visual check.
Optimization workflow
Before uploading, run images through:
- Squoosh.app (free, browser-based, lossy and lossless compression)
- ImageOptim (Mac, free, batch lossless compression)
- TinyPNG (free, web-based, smart lossy compression for PNG and JPEG)
Target file size: 500KB-1.5MB per image. Larger images load slowly on mobile and hurt LCP (Largest Contentful Paint), which affects both user experience and SEO.
For video, do not re-encode if you have a clean master. YouTube and Vimeo re-encode anyway; supplying a lower-quality source just gives them less to work with.
