Loudness Checks: Where do you fit them into your workflow?
Hey everyone,
I'm Aiden Cross, a UPM, and I've been wrestling with loudness compliance on a few recent projects. We're currently in post for a commercial shot on an ALEXA Mini, and I keep getting those 'too quiet, then too loud' notes from clients, even after what I thought was a solid mix. It’s frustrating because we’re using a good mixer, but the delivery specs always seem to bite us.
I'm curious about your personal workflows. Do you have a specific stage in your edit or sound mix where you always perform your loudness measurements? Are you doing a preliminary check with an LUF Meter early on, or is it strictly a final mix thing? I've been trying to get our editor to do a rough pass before handing off to audio, but it feels a bit piecemeal. What's your routine for avoiding those annoying client notes?
