Gaffer (Lighting Lead) for Doc Project, ABQ

Documentary Lighting Albuquerque, NM any Budget: Credit + meals

Our independent production is seeking a dedicated Gaffer to lead the lighting department for an upcoming documentary project. This film explores the vibrant, often unseen, subcultures within Albuquerque, offering a visually rich narrative that celebrates local artistry and community spirit. It's a passion project, aiming for festival submission, and we need someone who can help us achieve a polished, cinematic look on a lean budget. We're looking for someone creative who can make an impact. We're a small, collaborative team, and your input will be valued. Your key responsibilities will include collaborating closely with the DP on lighting design, setting up and striking lighting equipment, managing light temperatures and exposure, and ensuring safe power distribution on set. We're looking for someone who can bring a positive attitude and problem-solving skills to our shoots. Familiarity with various lighting instruments, grip gear, and safety protocols is essential. While experience is open, we do need you to have access to some basic lighting equipment (e.g., small LEDs, diffusion, stands) that you are comfortable bringing to set. Please submit a brief summary of your relevant experience and, if available, a link to your reel or examples of your lighting work. Our shoot dates are currently slated for early November 2026, over approximately 5-7 days, with some flexibility. This is a volunteer position, offering full credit and meals provided on set. It’s a great opportunity to gain experience on a unique independent film and expand your network in the Albuquerque film community.
