Lighting for Documentary

Documentary Lighting San Francisco, CA any Budget: $250/day flat

An independent production is seeking a Gaffer to join our small team for an upcoming documentary project. This film explores the vibrant, often hidden, subcultures thriving in San Francisco, focusing on their unique artistic expressions and community spirit. It's a visually driven piece, aiming for a raw, authentic, yet artfully lit aesthetic to capture the energy and intimacy of these worlds. We need someone to lead our lighting efforts, collaborating closely with the cinematographer to shape the visual tone. Responsibilities include advising on and executing lighting setups for interviews, verité scenes, and artistic performance segments, as well as managing grip equipment. You should have a strong understanding of natural and practical lighting, with an ability to adapt quickly to diverse locations. Experience on documentary sets is a plus, and a reel demonstrating your work is essential. This is a paid position at $250/day. We anticipate shooting for approximately 10-12 non-consecutive days, primarily between around November 17, 2026 and early December. Hours will vary, but expect full days. Production will provide all necessary lighting and grip equipment, and craft services on set. Please submit your application, including your reel and relevant experience, by December 4, 2026.
