Screenwriting for Documentary

Documentary Screenwriting 🌍 Remote mid Budget: TBD

An independent production is seeking a talented mid-level Screenwriter for an upcoming feature-length documentary. This project explores the fascinating world of urban foraging in London, focusing on its community aspect, sustainability, and hidden culinary gems. We are looking for someone with a strong narrative voice to shape our extensive research and interview material into a compelling, character-driven story. This is not a talking-heads documentary; we aim for a dynamic and engaging exploration of a subculture. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the director to develop the film's structure, outlining scenes, writing narration, and crafting interview questions that will guide our storytelling. You'll be instrumental in translating complex information into an accessible and emotionally resonant script. Previous experience writing for documentary features or long-form documentary series is essential. Please submit a reel or portfolio demonstrating your screenwriting work, specifically samples that showcase your ability to weave narrative from real-world material. Experience with projects involving social or environmental themes is a plus. This role offers flexible hours, with approximately 8-10 weeks of work anticipated, commencing in December 2026. While London-based is preferred for occasional in-person meetings, remote work within the UK is entirely acceptable. Compensation will be discussed based on experience and the scope of work.
