Art Department for Short Film

We're bringing a visually striking sci-fi short film, 'Echoes of Azania,' to life, set in a dystopian future Cape Town where water is the ultimate currency. This is a story about resilience and resourcefulness, with a rich, textured aesthetic that will challenge and inspire. We're looking for an entry-level Production Designer to join our small, passionate team. Your main responsibilities will include collaborating with the director to define the film's visual style, conceptualizing and sourcing props, set dressing, and assisting with costume elements that align with our gritty, futuristic vision. You'll be working closely with a small art department team, so a proactive attitude and willingness to jump in where needed are key. While we don't require specific gear, a portfolio or reel showcasing your creative vision and practical skills in design or art direction is essential. Experience with low-budget creative solutions is a big plus. Shoot dates are currently planned for about 3-4 intensive days in early November 2026, with prep starting roughly 2-3 weeks before. This is an independent production offering deferred compensation (backend percentage points). While we can't offer upfront pay, we're committed to making this a valuable portfolio piece for everyone involved. Craft services and local transport to and from set (within Cape Town) will be provided. We're aiming to wrap up applications by November 29, 2026.
