Gaffer for NOLA Short Film

Short Film Lighting New Orleans, LA entry Budget: $300-500/day

An independent production is seeking a skilled Gaffer to join our small, dedicated team for an upcoming short film shooting in New Orleans. This is an entry-level paid position, offering $300-500/day. The project is a character-driven drama with a subtle, melancholic tone, exploring themes of resilience and memory within a classic New Orleans backdrop. We're aiming for a cinematic, naturalistic aesthetic with nuanced lighting to enhance the emotional depth of our story. We believe this will be a visually compelling piece that allows a Gaffer to contribute significantly to the film's atmosphere. Your key responsibilities will include executing the lighting plan under the direction of the Cinematographer, managing the lighting equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and collaborating closely with the camera and art departments. We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of lighting principles, familiar with various fixtures and techniques, and capable of problem-solving on set. Basic kit access, even a small package, is a plus, but not strictly required. Please have a reel or portfolio demonstrating your lighting experience on previous projects, however small. The shoot is currently scheduled for 3-4 full days in late October 2026. Specific dates will be confirmed soon, but expect typical 10-12 hour days. Production will provide craft services, lunch, and a positive, collaborative work environment. While we won't be providing housing or travel, we'll do our best to assist with local recommendations if you're coming from out of town.
